Sexual Offences (Scotland) Bill: Stage 1

The next item of business is a debate on motion S3M, in the name of Kenny MacAskill, on the Sexual Offences (Scotland) Bill.I begin by acknowledging the work of the Justice Committee in preparing the stage 1 report on the Sexual Offences (Scotland) Bill. I also praise the groups and individuals who gave oral and written evidence on the bill. The bill deals with difficult and legally complex matters, and I am sure that the whole Parliament acknowledges people's contributions.
The Justice Committee's stage 1 report is considered and balanced. I thank the committee for its agreement to the general principles of the bill and I appreciate its detailed and careful consideration of the issues. I wrote to Bill Aitken on 3 February to record our response to the report. I do not wish to repeat everything that was said in the letter, but I will say something about the main issues that were raised.

Referrals to our Addiewell service can either be self-referrals or by voluntary and statutory professionals.
- A whole family support service for fathers, their children, and their families in response to supporting fathers who are leaving HMP Addiewell with children aged 18 and under and returning to North Lanarkshire, South Lanarkshire and West Lothian. The support encompasses productive with the whole family to address parenting, addiction, housing, financial and bond issues amongst others.
- A service supporting fathers in custody within HMP Addiewell through
intensive whole family support, therapeutic counselling, and a childrens
resilience service to address complex health and social nurture needs resulting
from substance apply, domestic abuse, and destitute mental health. Covering families in North Lanarkshire (Funded by Corra Foundation)

We gave young people the chance to ask political figures at our Question Time style referendum debate.
Around sixty people attended the event held at Carronvale House in Stirlingshire on Friday 21st March.
The final panel line-up included Zara Kitsonof the Scottish Green Party,Kyle Thornton, Chair of Scottish Youth Parliament,Ken MacintoshMSP and Amy-Leigh Wilson and Steven Murray, who are both members of theCumbernauld YMCA-YWCA youth committee.
The event was hosted by Tam Baillie, Scotlands Commissioner for Children and Adolescent People.
